“Winter is coming” — though HBO’s smash hit Game of Thrones is over, you don’t need the threat of an undead army to be less than excited for five months of wearing the same old puffy coat every time you leave the house. And the ongoing COVID pandemic is sure to make this already grim series of snowstorms and depressive episodes even more punishing this year.
Of course, not everyone has the same opinion about winter — many of us feel differently about which aspect of winter sucks the hardest. So what part of this freezing cold, way too long, flu-incubating hell-season is our least favorite? We took a look at our list of The Worst Things About Winter to find out.

#1: Black Ice
For most Ranker readers, the number one worst thing about winter is black ice: the sneaky, slippery coat of clear ice that causes so many people to slip and fall during winter weather. Not only is it dangerous, it can also be very hard to spot.

#2: Flu
Not far behind black ice is the annual flu season, a nuisance to most of us and a deadly threat to elderly people and other immunocompromised populations. Flu has climbed its way up to #2 this year, thanks to a certain life-altering viral pandemic that's made its fair share of headlines in 2020.

#3: Icy Sidewalks
The #3 most hated thing about winter is icy sidewalks — appropriate, since it's easier to spot than black ice, but nonetheless a threat to anyone hoping to make their way down the street without spending any time on their backs.

#4: Windchill Factor
Windchill: making cold weather even colder since the beginning of life on earth! Wind causes heat to disperse more quickly from cold, exposed skin, which causes us to feel a pleasant sense of relief on hot days and unbearable suffering on cold ones.
