Ranker’s Top 5 Fortnite Streamers on Twitch

NOTE: Readers are still voting on this list all the time, and the ranking changes frequently. Changes in the list ranking may not immediately be reflected in this blog.

With esports now more popular among 35% of Gen Z consumers, more than major league baseball and hockey, gamers are clearly a very valuable demographic. And as the gaming and livestreaming industries grow larger every year, they also are growing more diverse. That means advertisers, streaming platforms, and video game developers can’t treat this audience as a single, generic bloc — they have to pinpoint the different preferences held by the people who play the most popular games and watch the most popular streams to maximize the efficiency of ad campaigns, encourage in-game purchases, or attract more subscribers.

We took a look at our list of the Best Fortnite Streamers On Twitch and used Ranker Insights to demonstrate the differences between the audiences of the five most popular streaming personalities associated with this highly popular game. We were able to identify their favorite weapons, indicating differences in their approach to the game; their favorite in-game purchase items, suggesting they have different aesthetic tastes to which Epic Games could be appealing; and their pop culture preferences outside the worlds of Twitch and Fortnite.

#1: Ninja (Tyler Blevins)

Favorite Fortnite Weapon: Ninja’s fanbase is drawn to the heavy shotgun, a weapon that does limited damage and isn’t particularly accurate, but has a high headshot multiplier that makes it incredibly deadly at close range. Most of these voters likely visited Ranker’s list of The Best Weapons in Fortnite: Battle Royale (138K votes) before Season 7, when the heavy shotgun was vaulted, but it’s likely safe to assume these players have moved on to similar, still-available weapons like the pump shotgun.

In-Game Purchases: When it comes to cosmetic upgrades that can be purchased with V-Bucks, those who voted up Ninja on our list of top Fortnite streamers are drawn to the “Plunja” on our list of Best Pickaxes In Fortnite: Battle Royale, Ranked (351K votes). Plunja is a harvesting tool that was added to the game as a joke after Ninja publicly complained about Fortnite’s lack of Item Shop content, saying he would buy anything, including a plunger (the item is a plunger with a katana stuck through it). And judging from their voting behavior on our list of The Best Backpacks in Fortnite: Battle Royale, Ranked (92K votes), Ninja fans will also shell out the V-Bucks for “Love Wings,” a Legendary Back Bling that gives your player two humongous angel wings.

Other Pop Culture Preferences: When they’re not on Twitch, Ninja’s fanbase is partial to DanTDM, whose YouTube channel is this demo’s #1 choice on our list of the Best Gaming Channels On YouTube (91K votes). Ninja fanatics also vote for Fate/Zero on our list of The Best Anime Series Of All Time (7.7 million votes), and when it comes to movies, the film they are most likely to vote up on our list of The Best Movies Of All Time (6 million votes) is The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.

#2: Tfue (Turner Tenney)

Favorite Fortnite Weapon: Apparently a practical bunch, Tfue’s fans are more likely to vote up the Assault Rifle than any other weapon on the list of The Best Weapons in Fortnite: Battle Royale. The Assault Rifle is one of the most commonly used weapons, as it’s incredibly effective mid-range and can break down enemy structures fast.

In-Game Purchases: The Reaper harvesting tool, a particularly grim pickaxe skin that’s highly popular in Fortnite, is the most popular choice among Tfue’s fans on our Best Pickaxes list. Displaying a flair for fashion, these gamers are also most likely to vote for the Cuddle Bow on our list of The Best Backpacks. The Cuddle Bow is a Holiday Back Bling that essentially amounts to a giant black bow avatars can wear on their backs.

Other Pop Culture Preferences: Tfue fans who visit our list of the Best Gaming Channels On YouTube are more likely to vote for Markiplier’s channel than any other on the list. Tfue followers’ most common choice on The Best Anime Series Of All Time is the supernatural action anime Hellsing. This group’s taste in film is centered on war: their top two choices on the list of The Best Movies Of All Time are the Steven Spielberg-directed Saving Private Ryan and Stanley Kubrick’s Full Metal Jacket.

#3: Mrfreshasian (Harley Campbell)

Favorite Fortnite Weapon: Followers of Australian pro-gamer Mrfreshasian were more likely to choose the Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle. That might indicate that his fanbase is more likely to adopt a “camping” strategy — one that involves hiding along the edges of the storm’s barrier and either taking aim at enemies from afar or waiting for them to take each other out.

In-Game Purchases: On our list of the Best Pickaxes in the game, Mrfreshasian fans “pick” Icebringer, a rare Harvesting Tool introduced in Season 7.

Other Pop Culture Preferences: Besides Mrfreshasian himself, the streamer’s fan base is most likely to pick LazarBeam on our list of the Best Fortnite YouTubers — he also tops their list when it comes to the Best Gaming Channels On YouTube. The most popular choice among Mrfreshasian fans when it comes to The Best Anime Series Of All Time is Seven Deadly Sins, while their #1 choice on the list of The Best Movies Of All Time is the Francis Ford Coppola classic The Godfather.

#4: DrLupo (Benjamin Lupo)

Favorite Fortnite Weapon: Much like those who love Ninja, fans of Twitch streamer and YouTuber DrLupo voted up the Heavy Shotgun above all other weapons on our list of The Best Weapons in Fortnite: Battle Royale. DrLupo’s fan base differs from Ninja’s, however, in that they are 3X more likely than the average Ranker voter to also like the Tactical Shotgun, a weapon Ninja fans aren’t statistically more likely to prefer.

In-Game Purchases: On the list of Best Pickaxes, DrLupo’s supporters are most likely to vote for Onslaught, a futuristic-looking Harvesting Tool that was released in Season 4, than any other pickaxe on the list. They’re also willing to drop V-Bucks on Iron Cage, a gothic piece Back Bling that is bundled with the Raven outfit.

Other Pop Culture Preferences: DrLupo’s fans are more likely to vote for Pearl Jam than for any other band on our list of The Best Rock Bands Of All Time (3.4 million votes) than any other artist. They’re also more likely to pick ‘90s hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg on the list of the Greatest Rappers Of All Time (6.7 million votes), and their top choice for The Best Anime Series Of All Time is millennial Saturday morning staple Yu-Gi-Oh!. Bottom line: DrLupo’s following appears to be a little older than the solidly Gen Z base behind most other popular Fortnite streamers.

#5: Dakotaz (Brett Hoffman)

Favorite Fortnite Weapon: Those who love Dakotaz tend to vote up the Grenade Launcher on The Best Weapons in Fortnite: Battle Royale, a weapon that managed to pick up a good deal of votes before it was vaulted in Season 1 of Chapter 2 near the end of 2019. This preference suggests that Dakotaz fans are aggressive Fortnite players, rushing out to take down enemy structures and kill opponents rather than waiting the storm out in structures of their own.

In-Game Purchases: Those who voted up Dakotaz on our list of top Fortnite streamers were more likely to vote up Cliffhanger on our list of Best Pickaxes In Fortnite: Battle Royale than any other Harvesting Tool. Cliffhanger is a no-nonsense icepick skin that goes for 800 V-Bucks, which suggests this group of gamers isn’t big on flash. On the other hand, their top choice on our list of the best Fortnite Backpacks is Brite Bag, a rainbow-colored backpack that looks like it might have been inspired by Lisa Frank. Dakotaz fans, it seems, are truly an enigma.

Other Pop Culture Preferences: The Best Anime Series Of All Time, according to Dakotaz fans, is Yu Yu Hakusho, while their #1 choice on the Top 100+ NBA Players Today (1.2 million votes) is Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell. And their pick on Ranker’s list of The Best Movies Of All Time is Indiana Jones and… are you ready for this…The Last Crusade. This is a fan base with some extremely eccentric tastes when it comes to movies, and especially Indiana Jones movies.
