Ranker Spotlight: Joe Biden

Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. made history last November by becoming the first candidate to defeat an incumbent opponent in a presidential election since Bill Clinton in 1992. As we anticipate his inauguration this month, we’re taking a look at how the 46th president ranks on some of our most popular lists — as well as the tastes and preferences of his biggest fans.

How Joe Ranks on Ranker

It’s hard to remember a time when Americans have been more divided when it comes to politics, so it’s unsurprising that Biden inspires plenty of both negative and positive feelings from our readers. On the positive side, Joe is the #6 Most Influential Person of 2020 according to 14,000 votes on Ranker. He’s also a very respectable #7 on our list of Famous Politicians You’d Want to Have a Beer With, a feat that’s all the more remarkable when you consider that Joe is a teetotaler, as is his 2020 election opponent Donald Trump. That, of course, didn’t stop us from assessing which of the two major party nominees was the candidate Americans would most want a beer with.

On our list of the Greatest US Vice Presidents of All Time, Joe Biden is #6 out of 46. Out of the 5 people ahead of Joe, there’s only one other contemporary politician: the late George H.W. Bush. Like Joe Biden, Bush is a VP-turned-POTUS who championed a moderate form of politics.

But not all of Biden’s rankings are so flattering. He’s #24 on The Worst Liars in American Politics, a list that’s been voted on by over 20,000 people. That ranking is consistent with a reputation for stretching the truth that goes back to the 1980s, when Biden first ran for president. And despite the fact that he was always expected to be the frontrunner in the 2020 Democratic primaries, Joe was ranked #20 out of 27 by over 6,000 voters on our list of The Best 2020 Democratic Presidential Candidates

What Do Joe’s Fans Love?

Hundreds of thousands of votes have been cast for Joe Biden on some of Ranker’s most popular lists — what and who else do those fans vote for? Insights can tell us more about the likes and dislikes of Amtrak Joe’s biggest fans.

Political Issues

Those who feel positively about Joe Biden voted up islamophobia, the separation of Church and State, and civil rights as the three most important Social Issues You Care About Most. On a similar list of Political Issues That Matter The Most Right Now, Biden fans picked equal pay, climate change, and minimum wage as their Top 3 political topics.

Other Public Figures

Unsurprisingly, those who love Biden are more likely to also be fans of his former running mate Barack Obama, as well as Al Gore, the Democratic VP who preceded him. And despite what social media might tell you, fans of Joe are 9X more likely to also be fans of Bernie Sanders, the independent Senator from Vermont who challenged him in the 2020 Democratic primary.

Biden fans also tend to be big fans of female creators and actors in Hollywood: the movie stars they’re most likely to enjoy are Meryl Streep, Amy Poehler, Maggie Smith, and Tina Fey. On the other hand, they tend to think negatively of actors like Ben Affleck, Kit Harrington, and Jared Leto.

Favorite Music

Biden fans might be showing their age a bit with their music choices — Insights tells us that the musicians who are most likely to be on their playlists are John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, and Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant. All great choices, to be sure, but the only contemporary artist who tends to share fans with Biden is Lady Gaga. Those who love musicians like Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day and Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam are less likely to count themselves as fans of the 46th president.
